About Formula 1000

 

Formula 1000 is a high performance single seat open wheel formula car class utilizing 1000cc motorcycle engines. Formula 1000 cars are equipped with full racing aerodynamics and suspension and are capable of speeds in excess of 150mph. The chassis consists of a welded tubular frame with a fiberglass body side pods and wings.

There are several engine makes currently used in Formula 1000 including Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and BMW with the most popular being the Suzuki GSXR-1000 engine.

Formula 1000 is one of the fastest growing formula car classes in the United States with more active constructors than any other open wheel class in the world. 

There are currently three separate racing series for Formula 1000 worldwide, the Formula Gulf 1000 Series in UAE, the Aus F1000 racing series in Australia, and the US Formula 1000 Championship in the United States. There are also plans to start another Formula 1000 series in Malaysia. 

In the UK the Formula Jedi Championship that was launched in 1997 also runs identical 1000cc motorcycle engines.

In the United States Formula 1000 is primarily run as an amateur club-racing class within the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) where it is known as FB.
