At the drop of the green flag, the top 3 drivers held their positions but Cooper was pressuring Slahor at every turn. Livingston held a distant third and Mayer had a great start, moving up to 4th while Chaponick, Crowe, and Bell battled. The dicing was cut short when Livingston spun in turn 5, and a Formula Atlantic parked in turn 1 with a blown engine, prompting a full-course yellow. The clock continued to count down on the timed race while under yellow, and when the race finally restarted, there were 2 laps to go. At the green flag, Cooper made his move and took the lead from Slahor. Slahor didn’t make it easy and hounded Cooper until the very end, but spun in turn 10a on an inside pass attempt on Cooper. Mayer and Chaponick sped past Slahor, joining Cooper on the podium.

After the first start was waved off, the field took the green flag and Cooper jumped out to an early lead. Mayer got around Livingston and Slahor as they entered turn 1 and started pressuring Cooper. The top four cars of Cooper, Mayer, Slahor, and Livingston created a high-speed train and pulled away from the rest of the field until lap 4 when Mayer made a lazy spin exiting turn 5. Livingston took evasive action and spun himself. He was unable to continue and his stranded car brought out a full-course caution. This allowed the field to bunch up and Mayer to rejoin the field in the 5th spot. When the race restarted, Cooper took off again with Slahor not too far behind. Two laps later, a sports racer in another class suffered a suspension failure in the high speed turn 1 just as the Formula 1000 field approached. Cooper narrowly missed the spinning car but Slahor was not so lucky. He impacted the sports racer, ending his race. Behind him, Mayer went to the outside to avoid the carnage and was hit from behind. His race was over. Behind Mayer, Chaponick tried to stay out of trouble but was caught out by all the crashing cars and slid through the grass, crashing into the outside wall.
Due to the lengthy clean up required, officials decided to end the race early, giving the win to Cooper. Jason Bell was able to slip through the crash site unscathed, finding himself on the second step of the podium. Richard Franklin also took advantage of the attrition, rounding out the podium in third.
